Set the glass in a bowl to catch the overflow and now pour cold water over the ice. Now insert the thermometer at least one inch deep in the ice water without letting the steam touch the glass. Now give a minute to the thermometer.

The thermometer is accurate if it is registering 32 degrees F or 0 degrees C. so, in this way you can check your thermometer with an ice bath.

2. To test in boiling water:

If you want to test your thermometer then you can use this method also. Water at sea level boils at 212 degrees F or 100 degrees C. to test with boiling water bring a pot of water to a rolling boil. Now insert the thermometer an inch deep without letting it touch the sides of the pot. Now hold it will take a minute or less, so, wait for a minute.
