A single match will determine postseason eligibility for the NPSL defending champion Sacramento Gold FC. The Gold defeated, 5-1, visiting Bay Area Ambassadors (Hayward) in last Sunday’s National Premiere Soccer League match played at Granite Park in Sacramento, California.

Striker Miguel Aguilar led the scoring for Sacramento with two goals, then teammates Manolo Pina, Clemente Fonseca, Marcos Ramirez each scored towards the 5-1 win.

The Gold (6-3-3) has a single home match remaining in the regular season against Sonoma Sol.

Sacramento needs at least a tie against the Sol to gain entry to the NPSL’s West Division playoffs, which a schedule has yet to be determined but likely in mid-July.

Four teams qualify, two from the Flight Northwest and Flight Southwest, from the 10-team West Division.

Sacramento trails Northwest leader Hollywood United (10-1-0); the Southwest leader is San Diego Flash (8-1-3) and second is Santa Ana Winds (8-1-4).

In a pair of matches this season, Sacramento ended with a tie and a win against Sonoma Sol.

“Our guys are playing really good, they gel together and are playing as a team,” said team Manager Ruben  Mora Sr.

“We should have everybody this weekend and they’re healthy. We somewhat have been struggling but it’s a pretty important match because we have to at least win or tie.”

The Gold will be without forward Ernesto Carranza who recently boarded a plane for Mexico after receiving an invitation from Club America.

“I think we can make playoffs, we have a good chance of winning the division,” added Mora.

Kick off for the Gold vs. Sonoma Sol is scheduled for 6 p.m. on July 3 at River City High School.

(May 1, 2011- San Jose, CA.)- Sacramento Gold FC (2-1-1) visited Real San Jose (1-0-4) on Saturday April 30, 2011. In a one-sided match, Sacramento came out on top 4-0 over  the Real squad. Four different Gold players got on the score sheet, while giving the team their second win of the season.

After going cold against Hollywood United FC, and Sonoma County Sol, Sacramento found a way to break out of their scoring slump. Goals from Clemente Fonseca, Manolo Pina, Jose Martinez, and Abrahm Prado helped Sacramento edge a young San Jose team that continues to struggle.

Complementing the high scoring game was a balanced blend of soccer. In a collaborative team effort, Sacramento was able to control the game.  Mid- Fielder Clemente Fonseca added, “It was important for us to come out strong. We did not score in back to back games. It’s good to see us back on track.”

Up next, Sacramento will travel to southern California on May, 14, 2011 for a re-match against Hollywood United FC (5-0-1). The game will be played at Crenshaw High School at 7pm.

The 2011 Season has not even started and the Sacramento Gold are already winning! The Sacramento Gold played an exhibition double header Saturday at the Davis Legacy Soccer Field, against the Cosumnes River College team and the Davis U-23′s (aka Under 23). It will be no surprise to the loyal Gold Fans that the Gold one both matches (4-0 and 2-0 respectively).

The games gave the team some more experience with the old and new players playing together, and gave the coaching staff another look at the players before the final cut for the season opener next weekend in the bay area. The Gold will play the Bay Area Ambassadors at Chabot College in Hayward, CA on Saturday April 9th at 7pm. Should be a good game, we had some trouble with the Bay Area team last season, but eventually beat them when it counted in the playoffs.

The team’s first Home game will be on Sunday April 17th at 5pm at River City High School Stadium, (MAP) where the Gold will face off against the Hollywood Hitmen a new team to join the NPSL this season.
