The 2010 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Champions Sacramento
Gold meet the Bay Area Ambassadors in the North West Conference Finals Saturday, March 31st at 7:00 p.m. at the River City High School Stadium in West Sacramento. The winner of this game earns a berth in the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States. It is open to all United States Soccer Federation affiliated teams from amateur adult clubs like the Gold to the professional clubs of Major League Soccer. These teams will complete the 64-team field in the U.S. Open Cup.

Admission is $5 for adults and children under five are free. Youth soccer players that wear their soccer uniforms are also admitted free. Come out and support the Gold on to victory and the U.S. Open Cup!

The 2010 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Champions Sacramento Gold meet Eureka’s North Coast Tsunami, Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at River City High School in West Sacramento, in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying tournament.

With the Gold’s 2-0 win over Real San Jose on March 10 and the Tsunami loss to Real San Jose last weekend by an identical score, a win, tie or loss by one goal puts the Gold through to the North Coast Division Final, for a birth to the Open Cup!

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States.  The top two tiers, Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer League, earn berths into the third and second round propers of the tournament respectively.  The third, fourth and fifth tiers of the pyramid play in a series of qualification and state tournaments to determine the berths into the tournament. These teams will complete the 64-team field in the U.S. Open Cup.

Be there to see the Sacramento Gold earn its berth into the North Coast Division Final for a potential birth in the U.S. Open Cup!

Gold Start 2012 with a Win!

(West Sacramento CA.- March 10, 2012)–Sacramento Gold FC squared off against Real San Jose in a Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup Qualifying match on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at River City High School. Sacramento came out on top 2-0; both goals where scored by Manolo Piña in the first half of competition.

Piña lit up the scoreboard in the 29th minute after an assist from defender Jon Jones.
Slipping behind the back line, Piña was able to collect the pass and beat the San Jose goalie for the easy tap in.

In the 36th minute Gold FC forward Oscar Sandoval snuck out into the flank and delivered a pin-point cross to the pouncing Piña. After trapping the ball, Piña was able to hit a right-footed shot past the-once-again beaten San Jose goal tender.

The second half continued to be dominated by Sacramento. With a stingy defense and with constant ball possession, Gold FC was able to attack from all angles. In the end, after countless Real goalkeeper saves, San Jose was able to keep the score 0-2.

Gold FC Head coach Ruben Mora Jr., recognized the team effort but is focused on working out some of the kinks. Stating, “We are happy with the outcome, but at times we looked a little rusty. The season crept up on us quick and it’s going to take some time, but we will find our rhythm.”

Up next Sacramento will host North Coast Tsunami on March 24, 2012 at 7pm in River City High School.

In the first round of qualifying matches for the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the 2010 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) Champions Sacramento Gold knocked off Real San Jose Saturday night by a score of 2 to 0. The match was played before a cold, but hardy crowd at the Gold’s home field, West Sacramento’s River City High School.

Manolo Pina scored both Gold goals. The first, came in the 29th minute on an assist by Marco Ramirez and the second in the 36th minute on an assist by Oscar Sandoval. The Gold dominated play in the second half but were held scoreless, in large part due to several outstanding saves by the San Jose keeper.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and is presently open to all United States Soccer Federation affiliated teams, from amateur adult club teams, like the Gold, to the professional clubs of Major League Soccer. The top two tiers Major League Soccer and the North American Soccer League, earn berths into the third and second round propers of the tournament respectively. This is the first time in six years that all first and second division teams automatically qualify into the tournament. The third, fourth and fifth tiers of the pyramid play in a series of qualification and state tournaments to determine the berths into the tournament. These teams will complete the 64 team field in the U.S. Open Cup.

The Gold plays next on March 24th at 7 p.m. at River City High School when they take on the North Coast Tsunami of Eureka.
